Many of us experience moments in life that impact our future or our choices. I experienced such a moment in my early twenties that kickstarted my career. I was a few years past high school, had spent a couple years on a service mission for my church, and at that point I hadn’t yet figured out what I was going to do with my career. I was searching for my path in life.
My first summer home from college I had secured a management internship with Walgreens. It was a really good gig, but I learned real fast that retail store management wasn’t something I was passionate about. One evening after work I got a call from one of my best friend’s dad where he invited me to attend a financial workshop. I knew he had been working in “the money business” for the last few years and that was intriguing to me. Not to mention, he was a nice guy, so I decided it couldn’t hurt to go.
After attending the event, I knew I had found my calling. I was fascinated with how money, finances, and investing worked. Just how they talked about it made it sounds almost magical. After a few weeks of thinking things over, I decided to dive in head first. I joined the company that hosted the workshop, got my licenses, and started working as an advisor. The rest is, as they say, history.
Founding My Own Firm
I started in the financial services business in 2005, in the life insurance and fixed annuity side of the business. Later, I spent nearly four years with Merrill Lynch where I trained with one of the best and largest firms in the business and became a fully licensed financial advisor.
While I received incredible training from Merrill Lynch, I wanted to break out on my own and provide objective advice and comprehensive service to clients. In 2014, I founded my firm and started what’s now known as Epic Trust Investment Advisors with the mission of helping families Retire Confidently so they can enjoy the things in their life that matter more to them than money.
Beyond serving as an advisor, I want to serve as a coach or teacher for my clients. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor®, I’ve voluntarily signed up for the highest standards of ethical responsibility and commitment to my clients. I serve as a fiduciary, which means I put my clients first in all decisions and recommendations. And with the ability to provide comprehensive and holistic financial and retirement planning, I can develop custom strategies for all aspects of a person’s financial life and weave them together into one integrated plan where all pieces work together efficiently – like pieces of a puzzle fitting together. Every piece of the financial puzzle has it’s place in creating your Epic Financial Future.
Doing What I Love
Throughout my career, I’ve built strong relationships with so many incredible individuals and families. I am relentless in my commitment to genuinely understand every client’s unique needs and help them pursue financial independence. I like to think that my clients know how much I care and how genuinely concerned about and interested I am in their future. My biggest goal is to see that the folks who trust me or my firm to help them with their money get to experience being the Hero in their own life story. You deserve to enjoy the life of your dreams and my role is simply to act as your Professional Guide in getting you there.
While I’ve been blessed to become a local business owner with the opportunity to serve my clients at an even higher level, there are difficulties that come with this job. As I run a business and serve clients, it can be tricky learning how to delegate non-essential business tasks so I can focus more on what will make the greatest impact for you – the client. Luckily, I have an amazing team who helps. They’re incredibly capable and professional team members and I’m learning to let them take more off my plate.
Ultimately, there’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing the relief that comes over a couple when they’re sitting in my office and they’ve just learned that they can retire —when they see the plan start to unfold and realize that their hard work is paying off, from all those sleepless nights to other sacrifices that were undoubtedly made. When they see all that in their rear view mirror and are able to look ahead and get a glimpse of a bright and confident future, that’s priceless.
Many things drive me in my career, but family is my number one. I want to be a great dad and a good husband. To me, that means that my first responsibility is to take good care of them financially and provide well for them. Thankfully, the Lord has blessed me with the capability to do that. Along with my family, I love serving people. Helping people with their money and investments is my calling in life. I’m knowledgeable in this industry and thankfully I get to use my experience to help guide people to financial success.
